Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (BMB) Concentration

The Concentration in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology is for biology, chemistry, or other science or engineering majors who wish to emphasize molecular, biochemical, and/or biotechnology issues. CBMB offers students undergraduate research opportunities in these areas of concentration. This option does not change credit hours needed for BS/BA in biology or the BS/BA chemistry degrees. However, it specifies that 14 credit hours of the following courses be taken as part of the student’s major or elective options:

Required Courses (you must take these for the BMB concentration)

  • BI 101 General Biology I
  • BI 205 Genetics
  • CH 322 Metabolic Biochemistry
  • CH 323 Biochemistry Laboratory

Cell Elective (Choose one of these)

  • BI Cell Biology

            OR

  •   BI 313 Microbiology

Molecular Elective (Choose one of these)

  • BI 430 Molecular Biology

            OR

  • CH 301 Physical Chemistry

Biochemistry Elective (Choose one of these)

  • CH 321 Structural Biochemistry

            OR

  • BI 322 Plant Physiology

Capstone Research Experience:  Two semesters (4 credits minimum) of research experience in an approved area of chemistry or biology which may include thesis research, independent research, summer research, or a combination thereof.

GPA:  Cadets must maintain a minimum of a 2.0 GPA in BMB courses.

Cadets interested in the BMB Concentration should contact Major Emily Lilly.
