National Collegiate Honor Society
Let the Love of Learning Rule Humanity
Founded as Lambda Sigma Eta at the University of Maine in 1897 as a cross-disciplinary, academic, honor society for under-graduates. Expanded chapters to a few other schools and became a national honor society in 1900. The mission statement says: “to recognize and promote academic excellence in all fields of higher education and to engage the community of scholars in service to others.”
Qualifications for membership:
Seniors must be in top 10% of their class in academic standing; juniors in the top 7.5%.
