Four-Year Cadets

New four-year cadets at VMI come from many different countries and go through the same rigorous academic, military and athletic program as cadets from the United States. Currently there are international cadets from the following countries: Canada, Egypt, Japan, Kenya, Lithuania,Nicaragua, the People's Republic of China, Philippines, Poland, Russia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and the United Kingdom

At the conclusion of their cadetship, international cadets may elect to participate in Optional Practical Training (OPT). OPT authorization is designed to provide opportunities for employment to international students with F-1 visa status who wish to work in their field of study. During the period of OPT, a student will maintain F-1 visa status since it is considered to be part of the program of study. For more information and forms, click here.
