Three Appointed to VMI Board
LEXINGTON, Va., July 12, 2012 – Virginia Gov. Robert McDonnell last week named three new members and reappointed one to the Virginia Military Institute Board of Visitors.
New to the Board are George J. Collins Jr. ’62 of Miami Beach, Fla., managing partner of Collins Capital Investors Trust LL, LP; Brig. Gen. Janice Igou of Montpelier, director of interagency operations for Virginia Army National Guard; and Dr. Henry George White Jr. ’52 of Winchester. Reappointed is George P. “Pete” Ramsey III ’72, partner with Counts Realty & Auction Group, headquartered in Lynchburg.
Mr. Collins is the former chairman and chief executive officer of the Maryland-based investment firm T. Rowe Price. He established the Dr. George J. Collins Chair in Military History at VMI in 2005 in honor of his father and has also offered support to the Department of History and its John A. Adams ’71 Center for Military History and Strategic Analysis. He has served on numerous boards, including that of American University, and was also chairman of the World Trade Center Institute.
In her capacity as director of interagency operations, Brig. Gen. Igou provides oversight for programs, policies, and procedures regarding defense support to civil authority. She serves as lead general officer for outreach to state and local leaders, organizations, communities, and officials at the National Guard Bureau, the Virginia Office of Public Safety, the Virginia Department of Emergency Management, and the Office of Commonwealth Preparedness.
Dr. White served in the U.S. Marine Corps for three years after graduating from VMI and then earned his medical degree from Virginia Commonwealth University’s Medical College of Virginia. He has served vice-rector and rector of the VCU Board of Visitors and as an associate professor at University of Virginia. A retired orthopedic surgeon, he is a volunteer physician with the Winchester Free Clinic.
