Employees Recognized for Service

LEXINGTON, Va., June 8, 2012 – VMI employees gathered over breakfast in Crozet Hall May 11 to recognize the contributions of 52 employees at this year’s service awards ceremony.

Each year, the service awards recognize employees’ years of service at five-year milestones. This year’s awards represent 885 years of service. Recognized for longest service were Janet H. Cummings, executive secretary of the modern languages department, 50 years, and Virginia H. Smith, library assistant at Preston library, 40 years.

Other awards are as follows:

35 years – Barbara J. Blakey, museum; James R. Brown, physical plant; Mary L. Caldwell, admissions.

30 years – Judy G. Cash, intercollegiate athletics; Brenda C. Hostetter, admissions; Sandra B. Manuel, comptroller’s office; Terry A. McGowan, military store; Wesley L. Robinson, information technology; Vada L. Sanderson, chemistry; Sidney E. Smith, physical plant; Patricia S. Troppoli, financial aid.

25 years – Gene B. Burke and Jerry E. Paitsel, physical plant; Tamara S. Hickman, laundry; Theodore S. Kesler, biology; Karen B. Moore, physical education; Cynthia S. Royer, admissions.

20 years – Norris E. Dudley and Lawrence W. Jones, physical plant; Burton R. Floyd, communications and marketing; Amy I. McKemy, business office.

15 years – Mary E. Camden, laundry; Alvin B. Critzer and John L. Jefferson, physical plant; Corey M. Matteson, treasurer’s office; Teresa M. Thompson, protocol; Katherine I. Wirtanen, Center for Leadership and Ethics.
