VMI Board of Visitors Raises Tuition and Fees
LEXINGTON, Va., May 7, 2012 – Tuition at Virginia Military Institute will increase 3.9 percent to $6,880 for Virginia cadets and 4.9 percent for out-of-state cadets for the academic year beginning in August.
The VMI Board of Visitors approved tuition and fee increases for the next academic year at its meeting on May 5. The total cost of attendance, including tuition, fees, and room and board, for in-state cadets will increase 4.5 percent to $21,568. For out-of-state cadets, the total cost will increase 4.9 percent to $41,544. The increases reflect rising program costs.
Unlike most other colleges, cadets are required to live in the college’s barracks throughout their cadetships, making room and board a required fee. In addition, the cost of attending VMI includes a mandatory fee to cover the costs of cadet uniforms and other unique military activities.
VMI, which has an enrollment of approximately 1,600 cadets, is the nation’s oldest state-supported military college.
