UPDATE (12:30 p.m., Aug. 25, 2011) – Contractors are on site excavating around the suspected site of a water line break to assess the extent of damages.  A determination of the expected time when full service will be restored will be made after the assessment is completed.

At this time, the water line break has been isolated, but in the process water service is not available in Old and New Barracks, Shell Hall and the adjacent “in-fill building” including the post laundry, and Carroll Hall.

Short-term arrangements are being made to provide alternative services for cadets and employees.

At approximately 1210 hours this afternoon, VMI experienced a water line break in the area of the old Barber shop and Shell Hall.

As a result of isolating the water line break, the following facilities are currently without water:

·         Old Barracks
·         Shell Hall
·         Carroll hall
·         Richardson Hall

Adequate showers facilities exist in New Barracks and Third Barracks.  Mess hall service is not affected.  Cadet training and operations are continuing without interruption.

Lexington Public Works is assisting as needed. Additional information will be sent as it becomes available. Any questions should be directed to the Physical Plant Ext 7357.
