The State of Virginia started the Cash Match 401(a) program in April 2000. All full-time salaried VMI employees are eligible to participate in the Cash Match program. As long as an employee is participating in the State Deferred Compensation 457(b) program or the Tax Shelter Annuity 403(b) program with an approved company and contributing at least $20.00 per pay period, the State of Virginia will match this with a 50% contribution. The maximum cash match is $20 per pay, which requires an employee contribution of $40 per pay. Participating Cash Match companies are:
